Lea was born in Zagreb, and her mother was originally from Russia, which is why Lea is fluent in Russian. As a child, she spent a lot of time in court, as her father was a well-known lawyer who often took her along to hearings. At the age of 14, Lea wrote an article on the need for reforms in international commercial law, which was published in a local newspaper. She graduated with honors from the University of Zagreb, specializing in international contract law.
